Room Hacks

Check the tide tables before planning the natural pools of Pajuçara. Jangadas only go out at low tide, and the best conditions occur around the new and full moon. The hotel staff can help confirm the times.

Visit Maragogi or the Rota dos Milagres with an early start. The drive takes around two hours, and the reef pools are best visited at morning low tide. Booking a tour through the concierge saves organising boats on the spot.

Try tapioca at breakfast and again from street vendors on the promenade in the evening. Fillings range from coconut and condensed milk to cheese and dried meat, and each stall has its own style.

Eat sururu, a mussel stew from the lagoons, and fresh fish at the Massagueira lagoon restaurants south of the city. Many locals consider them the best seafood experience in Maceió.

Keep phones and valuables out of sight on the beach and at night. Ponta Verde is safer than many parts of Brazilian cities, but petty theft occurs, especially in crowded areas.

Use Uber or 99 after dark rather than walking long distances. Rides are cheap, and drivers know the city well.

Apply strong sunscreen and drink plenty of water. The tropical sun in Alagoas is intense even on cloudy days, and the reflection from the turquoise water increases exposure.

Leave the rental car in the hotel parking when exploring Ponta Verde. Everything nearby is walkable, and parking on the seafront is difficult.

Ask about the shuttle for the airport. Return flights from Maceió often leave early, and a booked transfer avoids last minute stress.
